The
artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place;
from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing
shape, from a spider’s web. - Pablo Picasso
I can't imagine a life without art. Not just surrounding myself with art, but creating it. Art is a verb. If I have to go too long without time in my studio I get a bit squirrelly. Maybe more than just a bit…
I soak up so many emotions from everyone I meet and I have to get them out; working on art is my salvation. I feel the click in my brain as I start working and I'm taken to a different plane. Kind of hard to explain, but most every artist has experienced it. Hours go by and it feels like minutes.
I get to create in a gorgeous
setting - my studio is nestled in the Never Summer Mountains in
Colorado and overlooks the Colorado River. Our house steps down the mountainside (we call it the stair-master house) and my studio is closest to the river. It's even beautiful when it snows, which is a good thing - there's a reason it's called the Never Summer Mountain Range.
All artwork on this site is made by me, Patricia Alander. I live here with my husband, Erik, whose art is the houses he designs and builds, and our two beautiful dogs, Zola and Ginger.
If you work
with abstract painting for a period of time, you may come to think of
it as a melody, a song, a piece of beautiful music. -Judi Betts
